The type of pups Piney Run Kennel strives to produce!

Breeding good bird dogs is an art and requires a combination of vision and knowledge along with some good luck. Anyone can breed dogs, but few can do it well. We have been doing it for over 20 years and try to do it well. Our pups come from field trial lines, and we average one litter a year. We keep at least one pup from each litter, so we can evaluate what we produce because we believe the best bird dogs are bred and not made. The sires and dam are finished dogs so we can assess their natural abilities and trainability.
Our dogs are trainable! Here is a 2007 photo of Piney Run Hank at 20 months old. He was steady-to-wing-and-shot at twenty months old and a pleasure to train because he was born with so much point and desire to find birds. He is now an AKC field champion and a 2X American Field champion.
Our dogs go to serious hunters! We are proud that many of our dogs go to serious hunters. Below is a photo that Jim F. sent us from a hunting trip to South Dakota. Both dogs come from our kennel. Rusty is six and Max will be two in June.
Here is photo of Trent S. and Ivy on a recent grouse/woodcock hunt in Wisconsin. Ivy is 18 months old. Trent said he couldn't believe how hard she hunted. He is really proud of her!
If you are looking for a family pet, we suggest that you consider a pup from field trial lines. These pups have multiple field-titled ancestors in their pedigrees. Here are a few good reasons to consider a pup from field trial lines:
